At Smart School Al Kawtar, we believe that lunchtime is far more than a simple break—it is a genuine moment of learning, independence, and togetherness. Our canteen has been completely redesigned with a professional self-service line and a hot-holding system to offer every student a complete, healthy, and fulfilling experience.

“Lunchtime is considered a learning moment, not a break from learning.”

— Smart School Al Kawtar Philosophy

Canteen enrolment: simple and seamless

The school canteen is part of the daily educational routine. All students are automatically enrolled in the canteen programme. Families may choose to opt out and provide a home lunch if preferred. Please note: the canteen (lunch service) and the cafeteria (The Bear Café — break-time snacks and drinks) are two separate services.

This approach removes confusion, arguments, negotiation, and daily chaos—giving families peace of mind and children a structured, healthy meal every day.

Why students share the same meal

At Smart School Al Kawtar, all students enjoy the same carefully prepared meal each day. This is a deliberate educational choice with significant benefits:

Equality among all students
Healthy eating habits
Reduced food comparison and peer pressure
Social bonding during mealtime
Simplified supervision for staff
Consistent nutritional quality from the kitchen

A modern self-service line: the Hot-Holding System

This year, Smart School Al Kawtar has introduced a fully professional self-service line. The hot-holding system ensures that every dish is served at the perfect temperature, preserving both flavour and nutritional value.

The space is equipped with stainless steel counters, a heated and refrigerated display case, tray and plate stations, and barrier chains to keep the queue safe and orderly.

The result? Less than one kilogram of food waste per day—a remarkable figure. Every meal comes with complimentary extras: Danone yoghurt, water, brownie, cookies, and seasonal fruit.

🍽️ A complete and balanced meal

Every menu is designed in collaboration with parents and students. Portions are tailored to each grade level—kindergarten, primary, middle school, and high school. And if a student is still hungry? They can ask for a second serving, completely free of charge.

What children learn during lunchtime

Our canteen is not just a dining space—it is a school of life. Every day at lunchtime, children actively practise essential life skills that extend far beyond the school walls:

Independence — serving themselves
Responsibility — clearing their tray
Table manners — eating properly
Social interaction — sharing a meal
Decision-making — choosing portions
Cleanliness habits — hygiene routines

These are habits that children naturally carry home. Even the youngest students become responsible and self-reliant—aligning perfectly with our structured pedagogy philosophy.

I love the self-service, choosing my own meal, and clearing my tray all by myself. The food is always hot, and afterwards we get to play outside!
